Crop, rotate, and mirror photos while preserving the original upload
You can edit a photo without overwriting its original file. Gumnut shows the
saved edit when you browse, while keeping the untouched upload available to
download or restore. The photo stays in the same albums and keeps its metadata
and person associations.
You need the Owner or Collaborator role in the photo’s library. Open a photo
in the web app, choose Edit, then crop, rotate,
or mirror it and choose Save. The editor works in desktop and mobile
browsers. Saved edits appear in the timeline and album covers.
Crop, rotate, and mirror a photo in the web editor before saving.
You can reopen a compatible saved edit to adjust it. The editor applies your
adjustments from the original rather than repeatedly cropping an already
cropped file. Videos, animated images, and externally produced versions cannot
be edited with the built-in geometric editor; some images may also be
unavailable while processing or because the browser cannot decode them.
An asset is one photo or video record. A version is a stored file belonging
to that record. Gumnut keeps the original and at most one edited version.
Saving another edit replaces the previous edited version; it does not build
a history of every save.
Replacing an edit or reverting to the original permanently removes the
previous edited version. Download it first if you want to keep it separately.
On an edited photo, the download control lets you choose the current version
or the original. To restore the untouched upload, choose Revert to original
from the photo’s overflow menu and confirm.Face boxes are hidden while an edited version is current, because their
coordinates describe the original. Existing person associations stay attached
to the photo; restoring the original brings its boxes back.
Immich clients and external applications can save edits as versions through
the API. External producers can upload a finished image, but Gumnut’s editor
cannot reopen arbitrary external edits as adjustable crops or rotations.
Both retained versions count toward storage. An AI assistant can also transform a photo
with its own image tools and save the result as a separate asset. That workflow
is different from replacing the photo’s edited version.See Versioning and Editing Assets for the API
contract, supported editing recipes, and version conflict handling.
