# Map view

> Explore where your photos were taken and combine location with other filters

Open **Map** in the [web app](https://app.gumnut.ai) to explore geotagged
photos and videos in your selected library. The map groups nearby assets
and shows a heatmap to help you spot places with many photos.

## Explore a place

Move and zoom the map to focus on a region, then explore its photos. Combine
the map with [People, Date, Album, media-type, and Favorites filters](/guides/product/search-and-filtering)
to answer questions such as “Where did we take photos of the kids last summer?”

An individual photo's information panel also shows a map when location
coordinates are available. Gumnut uses embedded GPS coordinates and can
resolve them into readable place names; it does not invent a location for
photos that lack one. Assets without coordinates do not appear on the map.

## Build your own location workflows

The API supports location filtering by bounding box or radius and geo-clustering
for map views. [MCP](/guides/mcp/overview#location-aware-clustering) lets
an assistant explore those clusters too. See the Search and Assets endpoints
in the **API reference** tab for parameters.
