# Albums

> Organize photos and videos into collections without duplicating their files

Albums let you organize a trip, event, project, or curated selection within
a [library](/guides/product/libraries). A photo or video can belong to more
than one album without creating another copy of its file.

## Build an album

You need the Owner or Collaborator role to organize albums. In the
[web app](https://app.gumnut.ai), open **Albums** and choose **Create album**.
Add a name and, optionally, a description. You can add photos from your library
or upload into the album.

Open a photo from an album and use its overflow menu to **Set as album cover**.
You can also use [search and filters](/guides/product/search-and-filtering)
to narrow the photos you browse within an album.

Removing a photo from an album leaves it in the library. Deleting an album
removes the collection, not the photos inside it.

## Albums in shared libraries

Albums belong to their library. Everyone with access to a shared library can
see its albums; an album does not have a separate invitation or membership
boundary. Use a separate library when a collection needs a different audience.

You can also ask an [AI assistant](/guides/product/ai-assistants) to curate an
album, or manage albums through the [API](/guides/apis/overview).
